The following is taken from an issue of the Work Foundation’s “Managing Best Practice” series. The report was based on a survey of human resource and personnel specialists. The survey found:

Helps identify solutions to specific work-related issue                           

Greater ownership and responsibility                                                      

Developing self-awareness                                                                  

Improves specific skills or behaviour                                                    

Greater clarity in roles and objectives                                                     

Corrects behaviour/performance difficulties                                         

The main benefits of coaching to the organisation were:

Allows fuller use of individuals’ talents/potential                                   

Demonstrates commitment to individuals and their development         

Higher organisational performance/productivity                                      

Increased creativity/learning/knowledge                                            

Intrinsically motivates people                                                                

Facilitates the adoption of a new culture/Management style                  

Improves relationships between people/departments                             

 

In a 2004 survey of 30 top UK organisations run by the CIPD the following ‘belief’ in coaching was revealed:

99% believe coaching can deliver benefits to both individual and organisation.

 

96% believe that coaching is an effective way to promote learning in organisations.

 

93% believe that coaching and mentoring are KEY mechanisms for transferring learning from courses to the workplace .

 

92% believe that when coaching is managed effectively it can make a positive impact on the bottom line.
