Tip 16 - How to massively increase your confidence
Would you like to improve your confidence? Would you be interested in a technique that can help get rid of the fear of speaking when you have to give a talk, or that boosts your confidence for sports or other high performance needs? Could there be a time in the future, that you would like to be more assured than you have been in the past?
Here is a technique that teaches you how to ...
During the production of Victor Fleming's The Rough Riders (1927), producer Jesse Lasky had great difficulty finding an actor who sufficiently resembled President Theodore Roosevelt to play the lead role. Though a look-alike named Frank Hopper was eventually found, he had no experience as a professional actor. Indeed, he proved so timid that Lasky considered abandoning the project.
One afternoon, however, Lasky was visited by Will Hays, the dignified chief of the Production Code (and President Harding's former Postmaster General), who hatched a plan to bolster the man's confidence.
Lasky sent for Hopper and introduced him to Hays as Theodore Roosevelt. "Proud to make your acquaintance" Hays declared, emphatically shaking Hopper's hand. "May I say, sir, the resemblance is perfect - but more than merely physical. I can see you have the same fearless nature, the same character and patriotism."
Hays then turned to Lasky "Mr Lasky, as former Postmaster General of the United States," he added "I count this as a proud moment, and I thank you for the honour of meeting this man!"
Hays's ploy worked brilliantly. "The change in the man was as prompt as it was astounding" Hays later recalled. "All at once he became the character he was to portray, and before the interview had ended he was talking and laughing, not really imitating Teddy consciously, but with his own confidence restored." Lasky immediately decreed that everyone on the set address Hopper as ‘Colonel’ and treat him with utmost deference.
Hopper delivered a fine performance in the film and Lasky was delighted. He was also amused to learn that, after returning to his hometown, Hopper had continued to strut around and lord it over his neighbours.
Another Story of Confidence
Father: "I want you to marry a girl of my choice"
Son: "I will choose my own bride!"
Father: "But the girl is Bill Gates's daughter."
Son: "Well, in that case...ok"
Next - Father approaches Bill Gates.
Father: "I have a husband for your daughter."
Bill Gates: "But my daughter is too young to marry!"
Father: "But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank."
Bill Gates: "Ah, in that case...ok"
Finally Father goes to see the President of the World Bank.
Father: "I have a young man to be recommended as a vice-president. "
President: "But I already have more vice- presidents than I need!"
Father: "But this young man is Bill Gates's son-in-law."
President: "Ah, in that case...ok"
Moral: Even If you have nothing, You can get anything. You just have to be confident.
