In his book "Cracking Creativity." Michael Michalko says "Geniuses produce because they think fluently and flexibly."

"Fluency of thought means generating quantities of ideas." Did you know that Thomas Edison held 1093 patents, but most of Edison's patents ended up not being of great value. However, the one about the light bulb more than made up for them. The lesson is that the more ideas you generate the more likely you'll come up with a light bulb.

Creative Exercise 10 -  Increasing fluency of thought

The purpose of this exercise is to build your fluency of thought and expression. At first, you might find that you can think of only a few sentences but, if you persist, many more will occur to you.

Write five-word sentences from the five given letters, one letter for each word.

2. Stupendous creativity adds maximum serendipity

Now see how many sentences you can produce in five minutes, see below for some possibilities.

Here are some possible answers to SCAMS:

1. Sleepy cows always masticate slowly.
2. Singing cellos alter mood substantially.
3. Sabotage caused army's move southward.
4. Spoiled children anger mother significantly.
5. Straightened circumstances affect man's stability.
6. Strike causing austerity merits squashing.
7. School classes appear moderately satisfying.
8. Studious children absolutely merit success.
9. Sly crocodiles attacked migrating settlers.
10. Siamese cats age much slower.
11. Special computers allow mice skating
12. Serial corridors augur more speed
13. Significant corporations appreciate manager’s salaries.
14. Silly categories attract mixed sensations

• "Generate a large quantity of alternatives and conjectures. From this quantity, retain the best ideas for further development and elaboration."

• "Produce variation in your ideas by incorporating random, chance, or unrelated factors."
